The Manual Workaround Most Mercari Sellers Try First

Two workarounds show up constantly in reseller forums and Facebook groups, and both fall apart at any real volume.

The first is Excel's Insert > Pictures > From a Cell feature (or the older drag-and-drop-into-a-cell trick). It does technically embed images, but you're doing it one photo at a time, resizing and repositioning each one by hand. For 10 listings, tolerable. For 60, it's an afternoon gone.

The second is the =IMAGE() formula in Google Sheets. It looks like the fix — type the formula, the photo appears in the cell. Third-party scraper extensions. Tools like Mercari Exporter and similar Chrome extensions can pull listing data, including photo URLs, into a CSV automatically. They save real time on a big closet, but treat them as a convenience rather than a permanent pipeline: we haven't tested these directly, and Mercari's terms of service around automated data collection weren't something we could confirm one way or the other. If you use one, spot-check a handful of the exported URLs before trusting the whole batch.

Crosslisting tools. If you already use Vendoo, List Perfectly, or Crosslist to post the same item across Mercari, Poshmark, and Depop, know that these tools sync your listing photos between platforms but don't hand you a spreadsheet of raw image URLs to reuse elsewhere. They solve a different problem than the one you have here.

One honest caveat: Mercari's photo URLs are served off Mercari's own image infrastructure, and we couldn't independently confirm how long those links stay valid long-term.
